The Turkey Oak is a small and moderately fast-growing but short-lived oak. Found in sandy soils, it is frequently found in pure stands but is often associated with Longleaf Pine. The acorns of the Turkey Oak are eaten by Black Bear, White-tailed Deer, and Turkeys. Sometimes referred to as Scrub Oak, it can hybridize with Southern Red Oak, Water Oak, and Laurel Oak.
