Redbay
Persea borbonia
Redbay is a member of the Laurel family and closely related to Sassafras. Its aromatic leaves are used to flavor soups and meats. It has been used as a substitute for Bay Leaves, a common spice that usually comes from Bay Laurel which is a European species in the same family. The wood of the Redbay is used for boats and furniture and the fruit is eaten by squirrels and birds.
